Every Sunday I get an E-Newsletter from a friend. The Sweetwater newsletter is put together by Carl Covey, the pastor. Sweetwater is a non-denominational church! In the newsletter, under the title Dangerous Religion there is a YouTube video posted. I had to watch it. According to the YouTube video, Oprah has started her own church. I wonder how much she charges, she has enough money already. Just think, she stands behind that freak Obama!
On the other hand there are atheists, of course there are YouTube videos on atheism also. I was raised a Christian and always will be. If I knew for a fact that there was no God, I would have lived a lot different. Everyday I work to secure a life for my family, seldom do I ever do anything for myself. I am always the last one to get a new pair of shoes or a new coat. Always helping others instead of myself, I put my family first. If I didn't have such high moral standards, I could cheat, mistreat and just be a bum.
There are a few pro-religion videos on youtube. Not many but we have the Bible to guide us. Without God life has no meaning, there would be no point in living a clean prosperous life. Just for it to end with no point. Although I could wait until I get to a secure age, then go out for one last wild ride. You know, something that will make people remember for years to come.
Hilarious! Do you realize that the pro-religion video titled "The Atheist Delusion" is a sarcastic jab at people who believe in the Bible? In this video and his other videos, he's making fun of religion! As in, how can you deny science and believe in some 1,500 year old book that has been modified and changed hundred of times since its creation?
ReplyDeleteThis is the first I've heard about the Oprah church thing but I believe every bit of it. She is spot on.
I can't believe that you seriously would consider doing bad things without the threat of God's revenge. I thought I knew you better than that. I know you are a good person and doubt God is making you be good. People don't behave only to please God, they do it to help others because it makes them feel good.
"I can't believe that you seriously would consider doing bad things without the threat of God's revenge."
ReplyDeleteIf you read some of the responses to the pro atheist youtube video you'll see I am not the only one who feels that way. They are not "bad things" unless it goes against the personal morals of the one doing the "bad thing". Your morals might not be the same as mine, I might not see it as being bad.
I don't behave to please god, I do the things I do because thats what society says is the right thing to do, the American dream, a preprogrammed set way of life given to me by the 12 years of public education. Run by liberals. Trips to Yellowstone national park, work, breed, die and pretend that thats what I want. I would much rather be a man whore, make money the easy way and throw my responsibilities out the door.
"I thought I knew you better than that."
You knew me as a child, it is easy for children to get along. As a child you only have one thing to worry about, having fun. Adults don't get along so well as differences grow closer and likenesses grow apart. Political, moral and religious views are much different. I like you, am smart enough to realize that differences can be put aside and people can get along.
I don't spend time volunteering at the fire house because it makes me "feel good", I do it because I love what I do there. I don't help other people to feel good about myself, I do it make life a little easier on those in need. To do good things to make myself feel good would be selfish. I am not a selfish person.
Personal morals are shaped by society. Ever since people started living together in hunter-gatherer communities it has been like this. The bag apple spoils the bunch and so is promptly corrected or removed by society.
ReplyDeleteI do know you better than that. You could never live the life of a "man-whore" and make a living the easy way. You are too good. You are the most honest and pure person I know. And I doubt it's because of fear of God.
If tomorrow it was proven as fact that there is no God, you would still go on doing the same things you're doing now because you know people depend on you and you couldn't let them down.
And yes, everyone does things for other people because it gives them some pleasure. It's not selfish. It's perfectly natural. That's why you feel good about yourself when you do something good.
People change, even if they don't want to. Nice guys always finish last, always.
