An epic journey begins with preparation

I decided to get out Fury (my bike, it has a name) and do some riding in preparation for the upcoming epic adventure. I stopped at a local sports store and picked up a wide gel-filled seat for my azz. One hundred and eighty-four miles can be hard on a bottom! I also bought a bell and water bottle and mounted them. I think the planning might be more fun than the trip; everyone likes to buy stuff.

After taking Fury for a spin around the mall parking lot, I thought I might be a little out of shape. Round is a shape right? Fury is going to see a few miles before we hit the C&O Canal Tow Path. It took all of five minutes for me to pedal to my first break. At that pace it will take me 3 weeks to make a 184 mile trip. Also I was thinking I might want to pack less cigarettes and more water, I have a feeling the water will be more useful.

The next step is going to be racks. I need racks to carry my junk. Fury is built for speed not for luggage but I will change that. Speed, cargo space and a large rider!

No room for a helmet!

  1. Are you sure that bike will make it? You can use my wife's bike if you want. It's brand new and a bit nicer.
