Guns are better than beer and abortion!

Well, I did send my buddy M3 an email asking for some statistics. Here is the reason why. I saved a man's life the other day, no I didn't cut him from a car or carry him from a burning house. I stopped him from driving drunk. I insisted that he let me have his keys and gave him a ride home to his wife (and 3 year old son). He was so drunk he fell out of my truck and busted his face on the pavement.

As you can guess being a firefighter and EMT, I have seen my fair share of drunk driving deaths and gun shot wounds. I got to wondering, how many people are killed by guns and alcohol. Just for the sake of argument I wanted to throw abortion in there. I myself don't believe in abortion, at all!

Here is what M3 sent to me as far a stats.

Where he came up with these numbers is is a mystery but here you have them.

1. How many people die in alcohol related accidents every year in the USA? 110,640 in 1996. About 100,000 average.

So about 100,000 people die every year due to alcohol related accidents. that doesn't take into account the number of deaths due to alcohol poisoning and hospital deaths like liver and kidney disease. So that number in fact is LOW. (editor's note: I think it would count alcohol poisoning but maybe not liver and kidney disease. It's everything that would list "alcohol" as a cause of death.)

Add a margin of error to that one to the plus side.

Guns.......

2. How many people die due to firearms accidents and homicides. US is highest in firearms-related deaths in the world. It is the number two way people die in the US (next to car accidents) totalling about 19 percent of deaths (accidental and intentional). Number of deaths has increased by 60 percent in the last 30 years. It’s now at about 38,000 (in 2006).

Guns bring about 38,000 new customers to the mortician every year. That is less than half as many as alcohol. HALF!

Again not my numbers on this one, stats supplied by M3.

Abortion, sad sad sad.... The biggest killer by far of the three.

3. How many abortions are done every year? In the US, it’s about 1.3 million. Worldwide, it’s 42 million a year.

The biggest killer by far of the three, wow, no other words than that. (editor's note: That number likely includes abortions performed for medical reasons, safety of the mother, etc.)

Guns....... Around 38,000 deaths per year
Alcohol....Around 100,000 deaths per year
Abortion.Around 1.3 million murders per year

But the liberals want to ban guns. It makes no sense. Alcohol kills innocent people too, more than guns. The drunk driver a lot of times lives and the passenger, other motorists and by pedestrians die.

There are enough firearms in circulation to arm ever man woman and child in America, only a small percentage of people drink and drive but the fatality rating is over double that firearms. Guns are safer than alcohol.

Don't drink and drive it might not be your life you take.......Just ask Ted Kennedy.

  1. Your logic is warped. You're comparing apples and oranges.

    Guns cause more deaths than anything except cars. More people die of alcohol-related deaths though because alcohol can cause someone to crash a car or shoot someone with a gun.

    So the only thing more dangerous than cars, are guns, not alcohol. But I'm not saying alcohol is not dangerous.

    So actually, it does make sense to ban guns in that context because only cars are more dangerous (and I'm in favor or banning them too!).

    You also say that a "small percentage of people drink and drive but the fatality rating is over double that firearms."

    The statistic I gave you is for alcohol-related deaths, not drinking and driving. It includes people who get drunk and shoot someone and people who die of alcohol poisoning among other things.

    Regarding abortion, I, too, do not agree with it, but you can't compare those numbers with the alcohol and guns numbers. There are medical reasons why someone would have to have an abortion and that is included in those numbers.

    Also, since abortion was legalized, the crime rate has dropped. So if you banned abortion and had no gun control, chances are you'd be complaining about high crime rates.

  2. I think it would make much more sense to ban alcohol, then the gun deaths would go down right?

    Plus it would save 100,000 more people a year. Most uneducated rednecks drink alcohol, so if you banned it the crime rate would again go up.

    So I say let the hillbilly's get drunk and shoot themselves, that's less welfare checks the liberals have to send out.

    No alcohol equals less gun deaths and brings the 100,000 down to a few lone home brewers that get sick on there own juice.

    Alcohol only has one purpose, thats to help ugly people get laid! It serves no other purpose. NONE.

    Guns help control wildlife, help young people prepare for police and military careers. Guns can be used for home defense and to discourage crime.

    ALCOHOL=Bad

    GUNS=Great
