Political Crap

Wouldn't it be grand to round up all of the politicians and put them in a steel cage. Then we could have them fight to the death to see who is fit for the presidency. I gave up watching television a long time ago. Every time you turned the TV on it was drama this and drama that. Now my Internet takes me to and also forces me to look at, watch and read political smear ads. Most of them are against McCain and Palin. Go figure, the liberals have infested the Internet now.

Biden in hot water with some Ohioans

"I was out in Ohio," he said while fiddling with a football in his hands. "I told the folks in Ohio that we'd kick Ohio State's ass!" (It remains unclear if Biden actually ever told Ohio voters this.)

Well shoot, he isn't fit to be VP. He said something bad about OSU Football.

Give me a break people. I guess that is just free publicity.

'Road to Nowhere' opens in Alaska
# Story Highlights
# $25 million gravel road intended to lead up to 'Bridge to Nowhere'
# 3.2-mile road probably has little purpose now, Ketchikan mayor says
# Gov. Sarah Palin killed $400 million bridge project last year
# State is considering cheaper designs for bridge

Did anyone bother to ask her why she killed the project or are we just going to fill in the blanks ourselves.

Lets just elect three presidents, an independent, a liberal and a conservative. That way I can go back to watching TV. No more news agencies either. Just live around the world feeds. No CNN, New York Times, Columbus Dispatch and a copy of High Times for everyone!

  1. I wonder how many people who have complained about the "bridge to nowhere" and those involved, even know what the "bridge to nowhere" is? Think about it....without looking it up right now....what is it? We have heard about it, but what is it? I wonder how many news people who talk about it even know what it is?

  2. That is exactly what I was thinking. Maybe the bridge goes through a place where there is some sort of wildlife that needs protected. Who knows. The liberals just want to use it as a smear add.All of those red neck morons sitting at home think Palin did a bad thing. Did she? I am not even sure, still I think McCain will be a good president.

  3. I haven't looked it up yet but I believe the "bridge to nowhere" was a bridge that connected the main part of Alaska with an island where there was an airport or something. The airport, I assume, was not a main airport but one used by locals only. Alaska was asking for the money because Congress often gives out money for projects that are "earmarked" onto a bill. Often the earmark has nothing to do with the bill that is passed. Some senator just tags it on there and says "I'll only vote yes if we include this project for my state." I think the bridge was never built after it took a lot of heat. Now there is a ferry that connects the town with the island. The deal with Palin is that at first she supported the bridge because it meant more money for her state, which means more money for the construction company that would have built it, etc. After it was attacked by other members of Congress as being more "pork barrel" spending, she backed off. I don't think it had any environmental issues attached.

  4. Believe it or not but it is true.....The bridge to nowhere actually goes across the Bering Strait. From Alaska to Siberia. Yes to Russia. It is only 58 miles. It is a challenge because it is through the coldest waters in the world. If it were to be accomplished, it would house a two lane highway on the top, a two way high speed railway that would be enclosed and an additional bottom enclosed level to house an oil pipeline. It is called the bridge to nowhere because it starts nowhere in Alaska and ends nowhere in Siberia. It would have to include a massive road, railway and pipeline construction overland as well as the bridge. If accomplished it would be an economy enhancement for both countries. It would provide a market and way for Russia to sell the oil in Siberia and we would get it. Both countries win. The downfall is the cost....Billions. Palin agreed to it until she found out that Alaska would have to foot the bill 100%. That changed her mind. We are talking Billions.

  7. The "bridge to nowhere" for which Palin is criticized is the Gravina Island bridge. The Bering Strait bridge is a bridge to nowhere but so far it's been only hypothetical and the subject of a Discovery Channel show. The Gravina Island bridge is in Ketchikan, Alaska and was supposed to link Gravina Island with the mainland.

The controversy began with the 2006 National Appropriations Bill. The act passed with 93 votes for, 1 against.

When the bill reached the Senate, Sen Tom Coburn (R-OK) offered an amendment to remove funds for the Gravina Island and Knik Arm bridges, and divert the funds to rebuild a bridge over Lake Pontchatrain that was damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

On October 21, 2005, Republican Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska became the object of strong media criticism when, in amendment discussion of the 2006 Appropriations bill, he opposed diverting the Gravina and Knik Arm Bridge funds to help aid recovery from Hurricane Katrina. In his speech on the Senate floor, Stevens threatened to quit Congress if the funds were removed from his state.

On Wednesday November 16, 2005 the Congress stripped the specific earmark allocation of federal funds for the two bridges in the bill, without changing the amount of money allocated for use by Alaska.

On September 20, 2006, Sarah Palin visited Ketchikan on her gubernatorial campaign and said the bridge was essential for the town's prosperity.
