So What's Your Opinion?

I pulled up to a stoplight the other day and saw a bumper sticker on the truck in front of me. It was on the cab of the truck so I had to pull up closer to read it.

"Don't Tailgate Me, I'll Flick a Booger on Your Windshield," it said.

That was the only bumper sticker on this truck and it made me wonder, what part of that statement were they attracted to the most, such that they decided to make it the sole representation of themselves to the outside world?

Do they not like tailgaters or do they like picking their nose?

To me, bumper stickers are almost like tattoos. Once you put it on your car, it's pretty much there for good (they are hard to remove and the adhesive might damage the paint or leave a nasty mark).

So you really have to make a decision when choosing a bumper sticker. After all, that sticker is how the outside world sees you. If you put up an "OBX" sticker (from Outer Banks, North Carolina), everybody knows you are a pretentious snob who is so shallow that you want everyone to know that you spent one week at popular middle-class tourist destination.

If you are a flaming liberal, you may have your car plastered with political bumper stickers like the one above. That way the whole world knows your political persuasion. I saw a car just like that one on the same trip where I saw the booger sticker except I counted no less than 18 stickers on that car.

It is a tough decision that should not be made lightly.

I do have a couple of stickers on my car. But I only use the non-stick window clings because of the whole permanence issue.

And what do I consider important? I have an Ohio State University sticker, from my Alma mater, and one that says United States Army, my other Alma mater.

To me these things seem much more important than telling people I like to pick my nose and I once spent a week at the beach.

  1. "pretentious snob","shallow", I think you are the one that is shallow. Why on earth would you put that much thought into bumper stickers and why are you so worried about what other people do. That must be the liberal coming out in you.

I have an OBX and ME (Maine) sticker on my truck so that makes me shallow! I also have two firefighter stickers and a Mt Washington sticker too. All on my rear window so they can be removed upon sale of the truck.
