My 2008

Dang! This year flew by. In January, I had been in Western Maryland for three months. I spent January through April working as a substitute teacher and guitar teacher, killing time before school started in May.

So May came along and I started back in school, in the masters degree program to qualify for a teaching certificate. School was easier than I thought it would be and as fun as remember back seven years ago.

In June, as we covered in depth here, Firefighter, myself and two friends, completed by bicycle the 184+ miles from Cumberland, MD to Washington DC on the C&O Canal Towpath. That trip was a blast and encouraged me to continue cycling and attempt more long-distance trips in the future.

July and August saw more school, classes most everyday during the summer.

September through December was student teaching. This was really fun, reaffirming my decision to change careers and move into teaching.

Finally at the end of the end of December, I took a break and traveled to the frozen tundra of Michigan to visit some family.

Now it is December 30 and I wonder what the next year will have in store. Right away I have more student teaching, leading to graduation in May 2009. Then it's on to summer vacation and hopefully another long-distance bike or hiking trip. I'll also be able to join the rest of the family for the beach vacation after two years of missing out. Then, hopefully, if all the planets align just so, I'll start working as a teacher in August 2009.

That said, I hope everyone had a great year and may your 2009 be even better. Happy New Year!

  1. GOod luck in 2009! I hope you get that teaching job you are hoping for! I miss teaching, not paperwork, but the look on a student's face when he suddenly gets what I have been talking about. Yeah I miss that.
