As Seen On TV...

Speaking of things seen on TV... One commercial is driving me crazy. It's the Big City Slider Station commercial starring Billy Mays.

I like the idea of the slider station but what drives me nuts is that in commercials like that, they always have to make the alternative to the product look so difficult.

For example, in the slider station commercial, they make it look like smashing hamburgers into a patty and flipping them in a skillet is next to impossible.

The first shot shows someone mangling a lump of hamburger, "trying" desperately to form a patty. Then you see someone flip a burger out of the pan and onto the stove because it is just as hard to flip a burger.

Trust me, it's not hard to flip a burger. Have you been to McDonald's lately? If they can do it, anyone can do it without the aid of the slider station. Not to mention that the bad actors in the commercial look like they are trying to make it hard on themselves.

And on the subject of "sliders," I always thought that White Castle had a trademark on the name and wondered how Mays could get away with "borrowing" it for his product.

It turns out White Castle does own the name, but spelled "Slyders."

While looking at the above White Castle entry on Wikipedia, I noticed something else interesting. White Castle, with the exception of Tennessee, is only in northern states, i.e. former Civil War Union states .

In the south however, they have a similar restaurant called Krystal.

Now why do you think they don't have a White Castle in any of the former Confederate states (with the exception of Tennessee)? They wouldn't go to a place called "White Castle."?

And speaking of Tennessee... I'm watching the Titans/Ravens game and I hope the Titans win. I hate the Ravens. Or the Bailout Browns as I like to call them.
