I saw an article on Yahoo! News that made it sound cool. Write on their blog about why you want to be a pilot and BAM, you could be selected!
It turns out there's more to it than that. The article did mention some conditions, like you have to speak English and Malaysian. I speak English and I'm pretty fluent in Indonesian, which is very close to Malaysian, so I figured I had that covered.
But, alas, there are more requirements, according to their blog. First, you have to be between 18 and 28. That excludes me, at the ripe old age of 35. Then there are all these academic requirements, like you had to have met certain levels in math and science. That also cuts me out. I'm no math genius.
Then there's an eyesight requirement. I'm not sure how "6/60 without optical aid, correctable to 6/6" translates to our 20/20 system, but I assume that my eyes are not that good.
So, there goes my hopes and dreams of being a pilot, dashed with a few "conditions of entry."
That's OK though. I remember from my time in Indonesia that AirAsia was not the safest airline around. In fact, even the Malaysian government doubts their airworthiness. They even had a crash once!
