Health care: I pay $64 a week for my health insurance and it is good insurance. Now Obama wants to grant all citizens of this fine country healthcare. People like me will have a choice whether or not to be a part of the national health care system (so I am told). What is the guarantee that my employer won't "cut costs" and not offer a group insurance plan any more? The odds are good they will drop that benefit so as not to have to deal with the hassle any longer. That leaves only one option, Obama care. Another freedom lost because a liberal thinks he knows best.
The cost of this national health care system is going to sky rocket for people like me who work for a living. Someone is going to have to pay for the welfare moms, crack whores and those plain old bums that won't work. What incentive is there going to be for people to better themselves if there is no benefit for success? I could work for McDonalds, play video games all day and never aspire to better myself, all the while having the same health benefits as a construction worker. Yep that's fair.
So what is the cost per tax payer going to be?
You pay $64 a week, which is about $256 a month, for your health insurance. That is subsidized by your employer because you are in a group plan. So your employer pays a part of your insurance as one of the benefits they give to you.
ReplyDeleteI have an individual plan, which means I am not in a group. I have no employer to subsidize my health insurance. So I pay $400 a month. That means that your employer might be paying $150-200 a month for your health insurance.
Under the Obama plan, healthcare would be affordable, so that people like me and people without insurance, can afford healthcare for the same price you pay for it.
Now it is true that your employer could decide to drop the group coverage. Then you would have to get individual coverage. Under the Obama plan, that would cost about the same as you are paying now, i.e. it would be subsidized by the government instead of your employer.
Your employer would then be getting away with paying you less money (in terms of benefits) than they did before. A decent employer would probably either not drop your group coverage or increase your salary since they are no longer compensating you in health insurance costs. So you end up with extra money in your check.
So theoretically, the government could then come in and increase the federal taxes you pay to cover this healthcare program. The increase could be as much as that extra money in your check and you would still break even.
Either way, you are going to pay for it.
