Bring It On!

My fellow blog partner has encouraged me to write a year-in-review post.  His summary of the year below was very inspiring, not only for me to post about my year, but to think about what I did last year and what I want to do better this year.

Being the constant recipient of good luck and the eternal optimist, I can honestly say that I had a fantastic year in 2009.

Last year saw the culmination of a long and convoluted life plan that required a lot of luck to pull off.  In 2007, I left a successful career after some considerable soul searching and readjustment of priorities.  I moved to a new city, practically choosing it with the toss of a dart, went back to school, and hoped I would find a new career at the end of it all.

In 2009, my plan came to fruition.  I graduated with my Master's in teaching and fell into one of the best jobs I could have ever asked for.  And in a tight economy to boot.

Before going back to work in the fall, I spent a great summer with my daughter.  I took a few days to bike the Great Allegany Passage with good friends.  My new teaching job started and I have had nothing but fun every day of school thus far.

And now it's January 2 and I'm most of the way through an incredibly long Christmas vacation.  I could not have asked for a better year.

So how could it get any better in 2010?

Well, I can only hope that I'm not effected by budget cuts and I continue teaching in my current job for the next school year.  I'm looking forward to the rest of this school year and of course summer vacation.

I hope to take another long bike trip with friends in the summer and I may take an even longer solo trip.

I want to focus on staying in shape and maybe start working out regularly again (a typical "resolution," I know).  I'm not getting any younger and I don't want my age to sneak up on me.

Of course, I am also looking forward to spending more time with my family, which this new career has afforded.

My ever-present optimism leads me to believe that this year will be at least as good as the last.

But what I really want to do this year is start thinking of some way that I can make a real difference in the world with whatever number of years I have left on this planet.

I have this feeling that I still have a lot more to contribute to the betterment of this world.  I have been tossing around some ideas in my head and I want to spend this year exploring some of those plans.  More to come on that later.

I'm looking forward to the new year and hope you all are equally prosperous in your pursuits.

  1. Well my old friend, I do think you have it in you to a real difference in the world. You have the brain, strenght and drive to pull it off. I just hope you make a good choice as to what your legacy will be.

Be safe a party hard my friend and we shall meet in the middle for a beer! Or two, or three.
