Killing in the Name of J.C.

In the most appalling category...  It seems that Trijicon, a company that makes luminescent sites and scopes for guns, has been putting Bible verses on their products.

This is another shining of example of Christians who don't seem to understand their religion.  Would Jesus have approved of killing anyone for any reason?  Jesus was a pacifist and a socialist.  Remember the whole "turn the other cheek" thing?

If the president of Trijicon asked himself, "What would Jesus do?", he would probably realize that his products are responsible for countless incidents of one person judging another and taking a life.  Jesus said only God could judge.

You might find exceptions or contradictions to this in the Old Testament (the Bible is full of contradiction), but the words of Jesus of Nazareth, which are supposed to be God's correction to the Old Testament, say we are supposed to turn the other cheek and let God decide.

I suspect that the people in that company who are responsible for these Bible verses justify their work to themselves by attaching it to a greater cause.  They are in the business of killing.

By putting Bible verses on their product, which is designed to take a life, they somehow have rationalized to themselves that God approves of what they do.

I think it's the same in companies that make missiles and such.  The workers tell themselves that they are serving the country, protecting the greater good, doing God's work, in order to shield themselves from the killing in which they are part.

Don't worry Mr. Missile-Maker.  I'm sure God wants you to help kill people.  Just like he wanted to help Tim Tebow win another National Championship.

I guess Christian society as a whole has reconciled the inconsistency in how Jesus said they should live their lives and how they actually do live their lives.

Jesus would have endorsed a country that did not kill others and in which all of its citizens were equal, one big happy commune, everyone sharing their bread with each other, with no one having more than anyone else.  Everyone would be entitled to equal education, adequate food and medical care.

It's ironic that Bible thumpers in this country are typically political conservatives and are against everything that Jesus would have wanted.  To you, Mr. Bible Thumper, what would Jesus say about that?

An interesting side note here is CENTCOM's reaction to the issue.  A spokesperson said that this is not considered proselytizing (assuming Jesus would approve of it anyway), which would violate military regulations, but no different than having "God" on our money.

Uh yeah, it is different.  You are endorsing Christianity here, not a generic god like we do on money.  That's proselytizing.

And I haven't even mentioned the problem this could cause in our international relations.  Most Muslim countries already think we are waging a Holy War against them.  Let's mark up all our weaponry with Bible verses and then go shoot up some Muslims.  We might as well break out the cross-emblazoned banners and shields and storm Jerusalem.
