Disgust and disappointment

After reading the feedback from an article at Fark.com, I just had to step back and ponder their ignorant words. The article title was "people who believe in God are Happier." Now the reader response was disgusting (to me anyway). People who believe in God were referred to as, ignorant, childish and just plain stupid. God was called fake and imaginary. The part I don't understand is why these atheists want make fun of people of faith? When someone is happy why would you want to ruin that? It is so childish, like third grade crap. The mean bully wants to ruin Christmas for the child that believes in Santa.

This is the land of the free after all, I guess the uneducated infantile people are entitled to their own opinion. I just don't see the reason to hurt someone else because of their own beliefs.

I myself believe in God and Jesus died on the cross for my sins and no matter what anyone else say, I will never budge on that.

So all of you atheist who want to make fun of me, go ahead. I'll take my ball and bat and go home!

  1. People who believe in God may really be happier and people who go to church more often are happier than those who don’t. In the case of God, I think this is likely because when people are in bad situations, they can step back and say that it’s fate or that God chose this track for them. It’s much easier to handle this than to say "I screwed up somewhere and now I need to fix it somehow."

Regarding church participation (which is also in the same article), by having a sense of belonging to something or participating in a community event like church does make someone happy. They also feel happier because they believe they are doing something good. The same can be said for people who participate in any groups.

Should people make fun of people for believing in God? I have always been of the opinion that each person should be entitled to believe what they want and that no one should try to influence another person’s spiritual beliefs. That said, I also think that in the bigger picture, religion can be dangerous. Religion, by its nature, is absolutist. This means that if you believe in Christianity and you follow all the rules, you should view other religions as wrong. After all, the Bible does say this. The same is true with most other religions. For example, in Islam all other religions are against God’s wishes and these people should be converted. Christianity and Islam are the same in this regard. They are the big “proselytizing” religions. The problem comes when two people or groups with their own absolute views of how things should work clash. History is full of this religious conflict. Often times, though, the religion in a conflict is used only to recruit lots of people to participate and the real underlying cause of the conflict is economic.

So in short, sure, go ahead and believe what you want, just don't interfere with other people's beliefs.
