"Religion is based, I think, primarily and mainly upon fear. It is partly the terror of the unknown and partly, as I have said, the wish to feel that you have a kind of elder brother who will stand by you in all your troubles and disputes....A good world needs knowledge, kindliness, and courage; it does not need a regretful hankering after the past or a fettering of the free intelligence by the words uttered long ago by ignorant men." Bertrand Russell in "
Why I Am Not a Christian."
You are a troubled little man, yes you are. I still think you are wrong, with out religion this world would shred it's self. Rape, steeling, murder and greed would take the world over. The morals of our nation were first mirrored after Christianity, our nation flourished. Now people are becoming Godless and look what is happening. The intelligent Godless people are running us into the ground. Abortion, lack of prayer in schools, Gay celebrations, all these things are going to be the end of us. What happened to one nation under god, to many it means nothing anymore. All those who fought and died for the cause will have died in vein if we let this happen. The American people are so worried about offending someone by hold up their moral values often time they look away instead. I truly do pity those with out God. I would hate to think I was a good boy all my life and it counted for nothing. When I could have had everything I had every wanted if I learned to be a good thief!
ReplyDeleteYou're the troubled one! You potential thief! You're saying God is the only one holding you back? You're assuming that only God dishes out consequences when in fact society as a whole is what dishes out consequences. Thieves go to jail not because God said "don't steal," but because society says don't steal. Treating others as you wish to be treated is not a God rule. Every religion, and even Buddhist philosophy, has this rule.
