My good friend M3 said; "And yes, it could be as high as $845 billion over 15 years (by the way, we spend that much in one year on defense, not counting Iraq and Afghanistan). "
I wanted to point out that the U.S. Constitution says the Congress has the ability to collect taxes to pay debts, and provide for the common Defense and general welfare of the United States.
So in layman's terms the government should be spending about half the federal budget on defense and the other half on infrastructure.
The U.S. Constitution does not give the Congress permission to; spend billions to eliminate global poverty, spend billions for nation building around the world, spend millions to fund abortions in Africa, or for that matter fund social subsidies, airline subsidies, farm subsidies, bio-fuel subsidies, or any other government hand-outs.
The federal budget should be Guns & Tanks & Navy ships and of course Roads & Bridges.
My point in the Obama bill was that he wants to raise taxes. I mean he wants to increase them by a huge amount. M3 says we have been playing politics by agreeing to this or that. Thats fine, but to me Obama is trying to actually spend the money instead of handing out empty promises as it seems Bush has been doing with the U.N. I have been very unhappy with Bush 43, but Obama really scares me with some of his ideas.
As to my good friend FireFighter,
I agree with you on most points. However, I would like to point out that most of these third-world nations are poor because of the evil dictators that are in power, over the people of those nations.
I would also like to point out that everyone wants to yell and scream when an American company moves overseas to one of these nations. We complain about the loss of American jobs. We complain about the evil corporation and how it is taking advantage of these poor people. What you do not read about in the newspapers is the really long lines of folks who want those jobs. In those poor nations an American company is a God send. The fortunate ones go from making $5.oo a month or $5.oo year to making $15.oo a week working for an American company overseas.
When Nike first moved factories over to Southeast Asia everyone screamed and moaned bloody murder. There have been hundreds of other companies follow. Now some of those third-world nations are becoming first world nations. India, and China just to name two, but there are many more nations that are moving out of poverty because of Capitalism.
What am I suppose to do, I work in the auto industry? We just got bought out by Lear, a company that sends thousands of jobs over seas. The just closed down a plant in Zanesville Ohio and moved it to Mexico. Whats next my job? Now I am the one living in poverty.
ReplyDeleteLet these impoverished people fight back against their government. Leave my job alone!
We rely on to much over seas suppliers. America builds nothing anymore, we just retail other peoples junk.
I'll be in a food line next!
I don't care about workers in Brazil, I have to feed my family here.
Those workers in Brazil are Christians. They work hard too. They don't have electricity, running water, food everyday...
