Obviously, the market is having no trouble bearing the high price of gasoline. Sure you see the stories of bike shop owners profiting, police officers moving to bicycle patrols, and more commuters taking mass transit. But ultimately, people are still paying for gas.
The big reason is that we're forced to pay the high prices. The whole country was built around the automobile, from its sprawling suburbs to poor train service. Finally, the market is making a correction and we are paying for our extravagant suburban lifestyles.
But alas, it seems it's time to start rethinking our way of life.
The funniest thing though, is what's happening to the global warming naysayers. "Global warming is a myth! So I'm gonna get me the biggest gas guzzling SUV I can find and prove it to ya!" Big dummy.
You know as well as I do the liberals blocked any chance of drilling for new oil in Alaska. In turn we get forced to buy from the dune coons in the midle east. American people are spoiled and won't let a little high priced gas slow them down. Thank God. Liberals suck!
ReplyDeleteAnother thought, what about people like me who use a truck around the house and for business? I have to suffer because a few soccer mom's want SUV's? How about my fire truck? Our fire dept. has used up it's fuel budget due to growth and higher prices. What are we going to due when someone calls 911 and our fire trucks are out of fuel? Not your problem right? I guess we'll have to let people die and house's burn. People will die, houses will burn taxes will go up to pay for fuel. Many city fire depts. are charging for ems calls, only those with insurance have to pay! So once again the working class people have to pay for losers! They get it free. The next time you call 911 and you get a bill for it don't complain! If you don't use the 911 syatem for help just think about the people who do, people will die because it will be cheaper to drive yourself. Is it right to get charged for a public service?
ReplyDeleteBig Dummy!
Look at the hole picture not just your liberal false claims of resource shortages and global warming. Drill off shore and in Alaska! People's lives depend on it.
The thought of people dieing sure is funny isn't it and houses burning. MUTUAL AID FIRE DEPTS. WILL HOLD THERE EQUIPMENT UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE TO SAVE FUEL AND TIME WILL BE LOST. 75% OF ALL FIRE DEPTS ARE VOLUNTEER, WHAT ABOUT THEM? WILL THEY COME OUT? For free! Who is the big dummy now. What if there were no volunteers? 75% of the USA would go unprotected and lives will be lost.
ReplyDeleteSure is funny!
"The funniest thing though, is what's happening to the global warming naysayers."
That's the whole point! All these soccer moms are driving up the price of gas so firefighters lose out!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog
ReplyDeleteSoccer mom's didn't inflate the cost of crude oil. The billion dollar oil people did. We (firefighters) aren't loseing out, the people that need help are. Our participation on volunteer runs is way down. So far there are a few people we don't even see anymore. Pretty soon I'll be one of them.
ReplyDeleteNow who loses out, not me I am saving time and money. Charity groups are showing less donations now because people would rather go to the movies than give away their money.
Maybe the liberals will come up with some sort of huge tax to take money from working people like me to give to the poor to make up for the lack of donations. This way they can force me to donate.
A lot of the blame for high oil prices is being given to developing countries like China. Because of all the consumpion gain, not soccer mom's who drive 6 miles to take Jimmy to soccer.
This isn't the time to point and laugh, it is a time for solutions. Like drilling for more US oil to end our dependance on over seas oil.
It won't do us any good to have a green planet if there is no one around to enjoy it. We are heading into the worst economy ever and I do blame the Democrates for not letting US oil companies to drill in Alaska and off shore. City dwelers like you will suffer not me. I have enough land to live off of.
This post of yours sure did stir up some emotions, based on these comments. Regardless of the cause of higher gas prices, I do agree with you when you said that "The whole country was built around the automobile, from its sprawling suburbs to poor train service." It's nearly impossible to change our society, so we need to come up with an alternative source of energy (and I'm not talking biofuels here either). Exploring for new sources of oil might help for the short-term, but its definitely not a long-term solution.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the interesting post, and the comments so far are pretty interesting too!
