One more real quick post for the day.
I was watching The Weather Channel and happened to catch a neat story. It was about Earthships. What the hell is an Earthship you ask? Well, it's a house that is environmentally sustainable and that doesn't rely on fossil fuels.
It's made of recycled material, uses solar and thermal power, and conserves water. It even includes a greenhouse so you can grow your own food. This is house for living "off the grid." It looks neat. I'd like to build one. I still have a cabin to build sometime in the future, so this could be an option...
Check them out at http://www.earthship.net/.
Dude, this guy is a joke. I watched some of the youtube videos on this guy. Rotten tires and trash? That house, if thats what you want to call it, would stink bad.
ReplyDeleteIn the one video, there was a backhoe being used and concrete. This is not survival limited. Shot fire, I could build a log cabin in 10 days with the man power he was using without a backhoe.
Wood is a renewable resource, use a tree plant some trees. The earth house used glass, steel frames and plastic. Amish build houses all the time with out these modern materials.
Green house, Amish don't use green houses and they make it just fine. No fancy water recycling need either.
Living green doesn't mean you have to life with trash hanging out of your house and eating grass all the time.
In a reality based do it yourself survival situation, I would stick to my log cabin, hunt for food and scavenge for fruits and vegetables. No backhoe or plastic needed.
Sorry but I think this guy is nuts. Too much work for a trashy house.
OK, so maybe building stuff out of used tires is stupid, but the concept is good. I was actually thinking of building a log cabin out of used timber or buying an old log cabin that has been disassembled. You can help me build it when I'm ready.
ReplyDeleteI alway thought I could survive in extreme circumstances, if need be I could build a shelter out of just about anything. But to build a house out of trash is insane, unless thats all you have. I would love to have a log home, I considered building one before I built my house. My father always wanted one. Someday if we live through this failing economy, I would like to buy more land and build a cabin. Remember the archery range? We could use old telephone poles. They work Great!
