Countdown to Destruction!

In just over a month from now, the entire Earth and life as we know it could be swallowed by a black hole.

On September 10, the Large Hadron Collider, a giant particle accelerator, will go online in Switzerland and France, smashing protons together with enough force to create the conditions that were in the Universe right after the "Big Bang."

Critics say the collision could create a small black hole on Earth, one that could grow and swallow the entire Earth.

Isn't that cool! On the other hand, most experts say the Earth is in no danger, even if a small black hole is created.

And if the Earth isn't destroyed, we could possibly learn all kinds of interesting things from several experiments that will be conducted in the particle accelerator, like how the Universe was born.

Sometimes when you think about it, it seems mind-blowing that the Earth and all of the Universe occupies some space. But space where? What's the Universe sitting in? What's beyond the Universe? These are questions that definitely make people think that there must be some creator, a God of some sort. But how could we know for sure?
