Neat story on the Huff Post about Christians failing to be Christians. It reminds me of my favorite Gandhi quote that I think I've posted here a couple of times; "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
The story lists 10 ways Christians are not real Christians. Number one on the list is that Christians can't (or shouldn't be) rich. The Bible clearly says that Christians sell their possessions and give their money to the poor. Yet it seems like the only Christians who really do this are the ones who really have no possessions to begin with.
The last thing on the list, which I think is most important, says that Christians are too uneducated about their religion. I just read several books on Christianity and I was constantly disappointed by the numerous examples of how Christians don't even come close to following the tenets of their own religion.
I'm not just talking about people who don't go to church and rarely read the Bible, but even about those Bible-thumpers who believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God and can recite every word. These people fail to understand the history of religion and the fact that the Bible itself is fraught with errors.
I guess this just proves that religion is a convenience. It can be there to help people on hard times hope for something better but when things are going well, you don't really need it to get through the day.
